My back hurt so much when I stood up to leave that I walked slowly and stiffly, reminding myself of how my father used to walk when his back was killing him. Not pretty.
Back home, I took a couple of Skelaxins hoping it would help my back, but it didn't. Eventually I took some Ibuprofen, which did give me a little relief.
Robert and I watched three more episodes of Six Feet Under, which now takes us up to the beginning of Disc 4 (out of 5) in this final season—so 5 or 6 more episodes, and it'll be done. We're both kind of ready for it to end, actually.
I took three more Ibuprofen at about 4:00 and lay down, only to wake up around 8:00.
My back did feel a little better—better enough to sit at the kitchen table and address all of my holiday envelopes. I got all of the ones done to whom I'm just sending a photo card—that was easy, a matter of signing the backs of them, putting them in their envelopes, addressing them, stamping them, and adhering my return address labels to them.
For the people to whom I'm sending my holiday tome, which actually isn't that long this year (only 5 pages), I went ahead and put one of the photo cards in a red letter envelope (because my letter won't fit in the photo card envelopes) only to be absolutely shocked that the photo card didn't fit in the letter envelope! And this was after I had addressed all of the letter envelopes.
Thank the deity that the flap of the letter envelope was long enough that I could bend it over the photo and it still reached down far enough to seal. Whew!
I don't know if it's just the angst I'm feeling this year around my parents' health issues, coupled with this horrible back pain I'm experiencing, or what, but instead of feeling "great" after having these cards and letter done, all I feel is relief. And I actually had the thought, "Do I really want to do this again next year? Maybe it's time to rethink this activity."
Oh well. I'll see what next year brings. As they say, "A lot can happen in a year."
I love this recording—audio and video— of Luther Vandross and Mariah Carey doing Endless Love.
