When I woke up at about 9:30, Joe had been to Drunkin' Donuts and returned with breakfast. Yay!
We called Kea at the front desk to get a late, complimentary, 2:00 check-out, since Joe is a Choice member.
Joe spent about 40 minutes out by the pool, and I stayed for an hour. Shortly after that, we were all packed, and we checked out right at noon.
At about halfway back to Raleigh, we made a ridiculously long stop at a McDonald's to get a large cup of coffee for Joe. How is it again that people, when getting to the register after standing in line for 10 minutes, look up at the menu as if it never occurred to them that they'd be ordering when they finally got there?
While we were waiting, Joe watched this teenager, maybe 14 or 15 years old, go over to the condiments section, open a coffee creamer, and throw it back like it was a shot of tequila. And then another. WTF?
Minutes later, the boys father goes over and does the same thing. I immediately thought of this country song:
Artist: Atkins Rodney
Lyrics: Watching You
Drivin’ through town just my boy and me
With a “Happy Meal” in his booster seat
Knowin’ that he couldn’t have the toy ‘til his nuggets were gone.
A green traffic light turned straight to red
I hit my brakes and mumbled under my breath.
His fries went a flyin’, and his orange drink covered his lap
Well, then my 4 year old said a 4 letter word
It started with “S” and I was concerned
So I said, “Son, now where’d you learn to talk like that?”
He said, I’ve been watching you, dad ain’t that kool?
I’m your buckaroo, I want to be like you.
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are.
We got cowboy boots and camo pants
Yeah, we’re just alike, hey, ain’t we dad
I want to do everything you do.
So I’ve been watching you.
Back in Raleigh we stopped at Buffalo Wild Wings in Garner, where Joe had the Chicken Quesadilla and I had 12 Wings—6 Teriyaki style and 6 Hot.
I like spicy food. They have four levels of hot in this place, and I got the least hot of them all. They are described as follows:
- Hot™ - Classic wing sauce: Delicious flavor, exhilarating heat. [Editorial aside: Not quite sure how someone gets to trademark the words "hot," ""wild," and "blazin'." But I digress...]
- Mango Habanero™ - Feel the burn, savor the sweet: Two sensations, one sauce.
- Wild™ - Classic wing sauce: Big flavor, blisterin’ heat.
- Blazin’® - Keep away from eyes, pets, children: The hottest sauce we got. You'd BETTER-BE-READY BLAZIN' ™
Halfway through the meal our waitress spilled one of those horse-leg sized glasses of soda all over our table and Joe's lap. She was a total ditz.
Back home, I napped for a couple of hours, read for an hour or so, ran down to Flex for two $1.25 cocktails, came home and read some more.
It's taken a while, but I am finally into Lucky in the Corner.
