27 years ago today, in 1980, on a Monday morning freshly graduated with my undergraduate degree, driving on NC-147 just off of I-40 West, I remember seeing the huge Alexander Drive exit ahead and thinking, "Wow. This is it. The big time." It was my very first day as a permanent, full-time employee at IBM.
I had a lazy day today. I should have straightened up things around my house. I was going to go to Kohl's for a couple of shirts.
Instead, I checked my voice mail messages at about 2:00, and Kevin (av8rdude) had left me a message about meeting him at Helios, which I did around 3:00. Joe joined us shortly after that.
We sat out on the patio and caught up a little, and then Kevin worked on grad school homework, Joe studied work stuff for his new job, and I read My Sister's Keeper.
It was fairly crowded there and after about an hour-or-so, David, the CC bar back David (who is also a high school Spanish teacher), asked if he could sit at my table, which was adjacent to the one shared by Kevin and Joe.
Over the next half hour or so, he proceeded to spar with a lady friend of his at a nearby table. I hate that.
While he was there, however, he did introduce me to www.toothpastefordinner.com, where I found this cartoon to be pretty hilarious, albeit it might just be so funny to me since I'm in grad school.
At around 6:00, Joe, Kevin, and I drove up the street to Mo Joe's, where Joe and I had dinner and Kevin had a milkshake, as he had to leave at 7:00 to pick up Kurt.
I had their "Inferno Burger" and Joe and I split a basket of fries.
Dancing was just alright tonight. Geromy's mother was there, and in addition to myself and Geromy, the troupe included: Carl, Bill, Chris (zinnian) and Michael.
Tonight's "theme" was "Rugby Team Luau Party," and within minutes of the dancing stopping, right after the person-sized, cardboard man and woman (in thong and bikini respectively) poster with holes cut out for faces, which people could stand behind for pictures, was placed just behind the six-foot-or-so diameter plastic swimming pool, with the inflatable crocodile beside it, I bee-lined it out of there.
See ya later, alligator. After a while, crocodile. But I digress sarcastically...
I was in the bed by 11:00, where I finished My Sister's Keeper before falling asleep.
