October 3rd, 2010

~Sunday~  We had a leisurely morning. Casey did some laundry and a little volunteer work for Distributed Proofreading, which is "an organization that provides a web-based method to ease the conversion of Public Domain books into e-books."

I worked on catching up a few days of my blog, with it taking an inordinate amount of time to finish the Thursday entry, which was about my boss' retirement gathering. I think there was something going on there in terms of some weird emotional connection of finishing the blog entry with it all actually "being over."

I seem to be perpetually behind on my blog these days. Oh well. All I can do is keep plugging away at it.

At just after 2:30, we headed down to NC State University, where I sent Casey to the university library, DH Hill, and I went into my office for about three hours. I didn't finish what I wanted to do, but I got most of it done, stopping in a place good enough to allow me to finish first thing in the morning.

My mom called while I was there, which was "right on time," as I was just telling Casey how long it'd been since we'd talked, noting that the phone line does go both ways. It was good to receive a call from her without something being "wrong." She did note in the course of the call, though, that my cousin's son died, which of course sent me directly to Google after we hung up.

Of course that makes me wonder, "What happened?" I only knew Lee when he was a very, very small child, as 1) my cousin (Lee's dad) and his wife (Lee's mother) divorced when he was still very young, and 2) we moved away from the Fall River area as my dad was on "recruiting duty" in the Marines, which meant I went to a different school the first through the seventh grades.

After a quick stop at home, I dropped Casey off at the Hardee's over at Avent Ferry and Gorman, and I proceeded to the gym, where I did a 40-minute cardio workout on the elliptical machine, registering a 767-calorie burn.

At about 6:15, I saw "that guy" come in, carrying a small gym bag that seemed rather limp, intimating it was fairly empty, and after coming out of the men's locker room he passed behind me, and then stopped. Then he turned around and came back and got on the elliptical machine right next to me. I thought, "He's reading my blog and he's yanking my chain." He leaned all the way forward and pushed his legs all the way back. I thought, "Oh, he's stretching." He "stretched" for about five minutes and then got off the thing and went somewhere else.

I purposely didn't look where. Oh well. At least he wasn't doing this:

I was surprised that Casey wasn't home when I got home, as he was supposed to walk back from Hardee's after he ate. Turned out, he'd stayed there a little while to read after he'd eaten, and he arrived home shortly after I did.

I made a comment like, "I guess I'm not going to have that banana bread with my coffee in the morning," teasing him about banana bread that he'd said he was going to make. He jumped right on it, thanks Casey, and it finished cooking just before our planned departure time to meet Joe at Flex for some scareyoke.

We did just that, and it was just that. We left Joe there right at 11:00.
