April 28th, 2009

Back to work today. What fun.

The day started with our weekly staff meeting, which was productive enough. I spent the afternoon working exclusively on the minutes of our March University IT Committee meeting. Tedious.

My boss made a good observation about how long it takes to do minutes: "It seems like they should call them 'hours' instead."

Today our governor Bev Perdue lopped off a little over $100 from my May and June paychecks to save the state of NC $65 million toward its projected $3 billion budget shortfall. I heard about it on the news before I heard it from my management team.

In exchange for it, though, I am going to get 10 hours of flexible leave time to be used between June and December of 2009, which I'll gladly take, since I only get two weeks vacation now.

I took a survey today about how the economy is affecting our lifestyles. There were several questions about any changes you might be making in your discretionary spending, and one of the multiple choice answers to one of the questions just made me howl:

To steal from a recent conversation, "HOW COULD YOU DO SOMETHING SO RUDE, DISGUSTING, AND VILE AS TO EXPLOIT YOUR OWN FRIENDS AND FAMILY FOR SOME BOOZE?" I'm just saying...

I had dinner with Joe at CiCi's Pizza, which was most delicious, and at which I totally overate. :-(

We stopped by Harris Teeter on the way back to my place, so I could buy a birthday card for my dad, whose birthday is Thursday.

Back at my house, Joe used one of my computers to pay some bills electronically, as he's having multiple computer problems at the moment.

Later, we went down to Flex for $2.00 well drinks night, and played 4 or 5 games of pool.

During one game, I was able to successfully hide from him the fact that I sunk the eight ball early in the game as he was looking away when it happened. It was priceless to see his face when we were each down to one ball left, and he began to think about going for the eight ball after sinking his next ball, and glanced around to see where it was. Too funny.

Jeffrey (Moore) and Randy (Freeze) dropped by, and we talked with them a little during some of our final games of pool and after we'd finished. Randy is moving to Dubuque, Iowa to work on a new IBM venture there.
