December 5th, 2008

I was up and at 'em early this morning, catching the 7:25 bus to meet Myra at the Hillsborough Street Bruegger's at 8:00 for breakfast.

On the way there, thinking through my day's schedule, it occurred to me that I had OIT Orientation from 11-5 today, and a pre-op doctor's appointment with Jeremy today at 3:20, which sort of clashed. Ridiculous, as I've known about both of these events for at least two weeks now. The problem was I had one event on my personal calendar and the other event on my work calendar.

I tried to reach Raleigh Orthopedics from Bruegger's, but it was too early. The office didn't open until 9:00.

I had the most delightful breakfast with Myra, and when I asked her how things were going with James, she stuck the ring finger on her left hand up in the air toward my face! I squealed with delight! I'm so happy for her, and James! YAY!

At work, I reached the doctor's office for a reschedule of my appointment, from today to the day before my surgery next week. This told me that this visit is totally superfluous, simply a way to collect another $40 co-pay from me and another office visit charge to my insurance company. Healthcare in this country sucks.

I thoroughly enjoyed the OIT Orientation I was in today, which included lunch at the NCSU Faculty Club with our CIO, a van tour around campus with stops at a few of the seven or eight buildings in which our organization has personnel, a presentation by the 6-8 directors in our organization, a 15-minute campus walking tour, with a final van tour through Centennial Campus.

I learned a lot about the history of the campus, and about the campus layout in general. All four years of my time in grad school was basically spent in the Thompkins-Caldwell-Winston hall complex, so it was good to see, and hear about, the rest of the campus.

I met Joe at Flex at about 9:30, and when the place had just about filled up with Goth and straight people for 120 Minutes, between 11:30 and 12:00, we left and went to IHOP.

I had Cream Cheese-stuffed French Toast, and Joe had those killer Butterscotch and Pecan Walnut Pancakes that I had at the IHOP in Jacksonville when I ate with my mom. Yum. Yum. Yum.
