I'm not saying we use too many acronyms at work, but I got this e-mail today. This is it in its entirety. I have no idea what it means.

The CCMDB foundation devel team also used DIT during initial POC and LA versions with marked results and hopefully will for upcoming significant GA drivers.

Today I celebrate 12 years of living my life as who I am.

My sweet man sent me a "Happy Coming Out Day" card. Thanks!

A colleague of mine has a single ticket to this Thursday's (4/20/06) 8PM performance of Mamma Mia! It's a great seat that he bought for $70, and he is accepting $35 for it. If you're interested in buying it, let me know ASAP.

The ticket is in Section C, Row F, which looks like, from this chart, 5th row center:

Class was interesting tonight. Karl and Ryan presented on Mogi Mogi and Botfighters.

During the last 15 minutes of class, Dr. de Souza e Silva told us a little bit about Geocaching.

All interesting stuff.

It has come to my attention that next Monday (4/24) through Sunday (4/30) is National TV-Turnoff Week 2006. Those of you who have been reading know that I recently celebrated my 4th year without owning a television, so this is evidently something I can support.

I found the section on TV Facts and Figures quite interesting. I've highlighted a few of the things I thought were particularly compelling under each of the "contributions" television makes:
  • TV undermines family life.
    • Amount of television that the average American watches per day: over 4 hours
    • Time per week that parents spend in meaningful conversation with their children: 38.5 minutes
    • Percentage of 4-6 year-olds who, when asked, would rather watch TV than spend time with their fathers: 54

  • TV Harms Children and Hampers Education.
    • Percentage of 4-6 year olds in homes where the TV is usually or always left on who can read: 34
    • Percentage of 4-6 year olds in homes where the TV is not usually or always on who can read: 56

  • TV promotes obesity.

  • TV promotes violence.

  • TV promotes overconsumption.
    • Number of TV commercials viewed by American children a year: 40,000
    • Age by which children can develop brand loyalty: 2
    • Percentage of American children age six and under who have products based on characters from TV shows or movies: 97

  • TV squelches political awareness.
    • Percentage of Americans who can name The Three Stooges: 59
    • Percentage of Americans who can name three Supreme Court Justices: 17
The entire list is here.

"Good night, Mary-Ellen." "Good night, Jim-Bob." "Good night, Elizabeth." "Good night John-Boy."

"Good night, everyone."
