Rent...

I took my car up to the Jiffy Lube on Western Blvd. to have:
  1. The oil changed.
  2. My annual N.C. State Inspection done.
  3. My windshield wipers replaced.
I dropped it off at 2:00, and walked back to my place, taking a slight detour up Kaplan and back to finish listening to a podcast.

I spent a couple of hours cleaning up the house, putting Christmas stuff away, as well as unpacking and storing my ski equipment and clothes from about a week-and-a-half ago. Lazy.

At 4:15, after calling to make sure it was ready, I walked back to the Jiffy Lube, where I found my car not-so-ready. The wiper blades had not been replaced.

I used a coupon for a free oil change, which I earned for having eight or ten done there in the past.

I met Joe at Caribou Coffee on Maynard, and we caught up for about 45 minutes.

Robert picked up some Chinese soups on his way over, and I made Hoo-Mee ("Yes, YOO!") Chow Mein for our dinner.

We went to see Rent at the Galaxy.

Synopsis: Based on Puccini's classic opera La Boheme, Jonathan Larson's revolutionary rock opera Rent tells the story of a group of bohemians struggling to live and pay their rent in the gritty background of New York's East Village.

"Measuring their lives in love," these starving artists strive for success and acceptance while enduring the obstacles of poverty, illness and the AIDS epidemic.

Surprisingly, I loved it. However, I thought I'd read that this production contained most of the original Broadway cast. I think "several" would have been a better choice of words than "most."

Also, I'm sure that, though the songs were the same, they were different arrangements of many of the songs.

Overall though, as I said, I loved it, and not surprisingly, it made me want to find my soundtrack, which I thought I'd loaned out, but hadn't, and download it to my iPod, which I did when we got home. I love all of the commas in that sentence.

We did the crossword puzzle in this week's Independent, which looked like it was going to be a real bitch from the get-go, but we actually managed it pretty well.
