Gigi = Goodigoodi

~Wednesday~  We had an after-work wedding shower for Vanessa, one of my co-workers, and her fiancé Brian, who are getting married in a little over a week.

We had drinks and some appetizers at the Village Draft House in Cameron Village, and on the way, Jen and I stopped at Gigi's Cupcakes to get our "celebratory dessert."

We got a dozen of them, carefully choosing four of the "Wedding" flavored one—for obvious reasons—and then proceeding to pick out the ones we wanted to try ourselves. Hey, that's the perk of picking them up and paying for them!

Here are the four flavors I tried:

Wedding Cake: white cake, topped with vanilla buttercream frosting, sprinkled with white nonpareils

Lemon Poppy Seed: lemon poppy seed cake, with lemon cream cheese frosting, sprinkled with popoy seeds and yellow sugar crystals

Texas Milk Chocolate: milk chocolate cake topped with milk chocolate frosting, chocolate sprinkles and a bright yellow fondant star

and my favorite by far:

Southern Comfort: pecan pie topped with a caramel frosting and dusted with powdered sugar

Other flavors that we bought included: Champagne, Merry Margarita, Midnight Magic, Hummingbird, and White Chocolate Raspberry Frappé.

You can meet all the cupcakes at their website.

Although we've not been in a while, Brian and I love the small Italian place that (hopefully still) is in Cameron Village.

Brian would flip over the cupcakes. My choice would be the lemon poppyseed - I like chocolate and caramel and stuff like that, but I LOVE citrus-y desserts.

I just saw the margarita cupcake! I don't know if I could decide between that and the lemon - oh the mind reels!

My hopes and dreams...
These are the ones that I'd love to try eventually: Banana Cream Pie (I am a banana fanatic [although I never make eye contact while eating one]), Caramel Sugar Mama, Carrot Cake, Chocolate Salted Caramel, Hunka Chunka Banana Love, Kentucky Bourbon Pie, Peanut Butter Cup, and Pistachio!

What I don't ever want to do is see the nutritional information on them, especially if it's anywhere near this (rather generic) page suggests.

Re: My hopes and dreams...
Those cupcakes must be fairly big - 800 calories without icing? OMGWTFBBQ!

Re: My hopes and dreams...
I don't believe that... not without the frosting. They're not much bigger than a regular cupcake. It's the frosting that's piled high like ice cream on a cone.

I think the numbers in these entries are probably more realistic, but the point is, I think, they are caloric, of course! :-)

Re: My hopes and dreams...
I think you're right - I guess I mis-read when I saw something on the page about 'cupcake with icing' and assumed that figure was for the cake alone.
800 is still one helluva lot!
If I'm going to snarf down 800 calories, would you hate me if I asked for homemade macaroni and cheese instead?

And which was your favorite?

Re: Cupcakes?
I believe the introductory clause to picture #4 covered that. ;-)
